However, according to Guinness World Records, some vets have begun to question his age.
“While our review is ongoing, we have decided to temporarily pause applications on both the record titles for Oldest dog living & Oldest dog ever until all our findings are in place and have been communicated,” Guinness World Records confirmed to The National Desk.
It was previously reported he was registered in 1992 with the Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria who confirmed his birth date.
A formal review is taking place and Guinness World Records stated they are going over evidence they have on file, seeking new evidence and reaching out to experts linked to the original application.
A spokesperson confirmed suspending the title is temporary while the review is ongoing.
