TENNIS ZIMBABWE have named a relatively unchanged side for this weekend’s Davis Cup away tie against Hong Kong at Victoria Park Tennis Stadium.
Takanyi Garanganga will continue his duties as a non-playing captain, while the Lock brothers — Benjamin and Courtney — are expected to carry the bulk of the load.
The duo of Benedict Badza and Tatenda Mutetwa also made the cut, with the latter coming in as the only addition to the team.
Mutetwa has been brought in as a replacement for Mehluli Sibanda.
Speaking at the Zimbabwe Davis Cup team announcement on Wednesday, Tennis Zimbabwe president Walter Jera expressed satisfaction with both the team’s preparations and chances heading into the Davis Cup World Group 2 playoff tie slated for February 3 and 4.
“The target that we have set for the team is to win the tie so that we remain in the Davis Cup World Group 2,” said Jera.
“We must remain in this group at all costs, but we know it is going to be a tough assignment as Hong Kong have a lot of good players.
“However, we remain very confident that we will get good results; the boys are well prepared and we have a pretty strong team.”
