T20 WC: India to visit Zimbabwe for T20 series, just after T20 Cricket world cup and fans are not happy with this

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced that Zimbabwe will host Team India for a five-match T20I series in July, just after the end of ICC T20 world cup. The Zimbabwe series is scheduled to take place from July 6 to 14 in Harare, just after the end of ICC T20 world cup in June. The world Cup is scheduled to be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States from 1 June to 29 June 2024. Indian cricket fans are not happy with this idea. Given India’s dismal record in ICC tournaments in the last few years, several social media users posted that this could be the ‘perfect plan to cover up the India’s knockout from the world cup.’
“So after losing T20 WC knockouts, India is going to do a cleansweep against Srilanka and Zimbabwe and Johns would be there mentioning best team in the world,” one user said on X.

“T20 WC haar ka baadla Zimbabwe Se Liya Jayega,” said another user.
“India would lose a SF in T20 WC and head straight to smash Zim in 5 match T20I series. Great decision to help SKY retain his ICC No1 ranking,” added another user.

According to ZC, the confirmation of this tour follows productive discussions between ZC and the BCCI, with the aim of strengthening bilateral ties and promoting collaboration between the two cricket boards. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah expressed the BCCI’s commitment to supporting Zimbabwe Cricket during their rebuilding phase.

He stated, ‘Our steadfast commitment to touring and supporting fellow member boards aligns with our principle of bringing about a positive transformation within the cricketing landscape. The BCCI will do its best to make bilateral cricket stronger and commercially more viable. Our pledge to support Zimbabwe Cricket reflects a shared vision for the growth and prosperity of cricket on the international stage.’

The series will commence on July 6 at the Harare Sports Club, with the second match to follow on the next day at the same venue. The final T20I will be played on July 14 at Harare Sports Club. ZC Chairman, Tavengwa Mukuhlani, expressed his excitement about hosting India for the T20I series. He acknowledged India’s significant contribution to the game of cricket and thanked the BCCI for committing to tour Zimbabwe once again.

Mukuhlani emphasized the importance of this tour for Zimbabwe Cricket, stating, ‘The significance and magnitude of this tour cannot be over-emphasised, especially as it is coming at a time when we are working tirelessly to re-establish ourselves as a force to reckon with at the highest level of the game.’
