THE Zimbabwe School of Mines (ZSM) in conjuction with the Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) are set to play host to a Half Marathon at the institution next month.

The news is exciting for Bab who have been calling for the corporate world to assist them revive road racing which have become far and in between post the Covid-19 period.

Bab chairperson Watson Madanyika said they hope this is going to be a start of many other events of this nature in the near future.

“We will have the ZSM Half Marathon on July 29. This is huge for us because we have not been having many of these events.

“This also should be good news for our local athletes who run long distances. Recently they have been travelling for marathon events elsewhere but this one happens to be home,” said Madanyika.

The ZSM is a fundraising  event aimed at raising funds to drill and equip the school with at least four boreholes.

Registration for the event is now open with fees pegged at USD $10 for the 10 km race, USD $5 for thev5 km race and $ USD 15 for the 21 km race.

Bab is on a drive to bring back popular and bigger road races in the city.

One significant road race Bab has managed to retain after Covid-19 is the Liquor Hub 10km.

Meanwhile, online entries for the Econet Victoria Falls remain open.  With a full marathon (42km), half marathon (21km), a relay of 10.5km each, and a fun run of approx. 7km, there is a distance for everyone.
