Local Roundup: Meadville loses to Cathedral Prep 63-57 | Local Sports


ERIE — Meadville lost to Cathedral Prep 63-57 in a Region 7 boys basketball game on Tuesday at the Hagerty Events Center.

Jack Burchard had a game-high 27 points. Lucas Luteran and Kellen Ball added 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

Meadville is 2-2 in the region and 6-7 overall. The Bulldogs will host McDowell on Friday.

Panthers down Bulldogs

Saegertown defeated Meadville 45-29 in a non-region girls basketball contest at Meadville Area Senior High School on Tuesday.

Lindsey Greco led all scorers with 20 points for Saegertown. Layilah Drakes added 14 for the Panthers.

Saegertown is 7-8 overall and will play at Grove City on Thursday for another non-region game.

Meadville was paced by Megan Puleio with 11 points. Kiki and Jayda Gongawhere added 10 and eight points, respectively. 

Meadville is 0-11 and will play at Corry on Thursday.

Beavers too much for Eagles

CORRY — Conneaut fell to Corry 74-56 in the team’s Region 6 opener on Tuesday. 

Shakiir Jordan II led the Eagles with 19 points. Alex O’Grady and Alex Brady added 14 and nine points, respectively. 

Corry’s Kamdyn Moon made eight 3-pointers and finished with 24 points. 

Conneaut is 0-1 in the region and 8-5 overall.

Blue Devils defend home court

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — The Cambridge Springs boys basketball team beat Union City 53-34 in a Region 3 game at The Devils Den on Tuesday. 

Parker Schmidt and Owen Riley led Devils with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Schmidt had 15 rebounds and Tristen Mazzadra added five assists.

Cambridge is 3-1 in the region and 8-4 overall. The Blue Devils will play at Saegertown on Friday for a region showdown.

Cards fall to Panthers

HADLEY — The Cochranton wrestling team lost to Commodore Perry 51-13 in a Region 2 dual meet on Tuesday. 

Blake Foulk won at 145 pounds with a 13-1 major decision. Cash Morrell won a 7-5 decision against Mitchell Tingley at 160 pounds. 

Cole Schmitt and Benjamin Field won decisions at 133 and 139 pounds. 

Cochranton will be back in action on Saturday at the Union City Tournament.
