A second-string Indian side will tour Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series beginning on July 6, the country’s cricket board said on Tuesday. The series, which will take place immediately following the conclusion of the flagship T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies on June 29, is unlikely to feature any elite Indian players, as has been the case in previous visits of Africa. The five matches will take place at the Harare Sports Club on July 6, 7, 10, 13, and 14.
Zimbabwe Cricket and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday that Zimbabwe will host India in a five-match T20 International series in July. ZC confirmed in a release that the series will take place in Harare from July 6 to 14, 2024.
The tour has been confirmed following productive conversations between ZC and the BCCI, with the primary goal of strengthening bilateral ties and creating a collaborative spirit between the two cricket boards.
ZC Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani expressed his excitement, saying: “We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting India for a T20I series in July in what will be our biggest international attraction at home this year.” The Indian team’s tour generates all of Zimbabwe’s television earnings for the year.
