GOVERNMENT has launched the 4th round of the national polio vaccination campaign in Victoria Falls, marking the start of a four-day programme that is aimed at ensuring a healthy population which is crucial to national development.

Health and Child Care Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora, accompanied by representatives from development partners-Unicef, UNFP and World Health Organisation, launched the programme at Chinotimba Clinic.

The launch was a side-event to the ongoing 20th International Inter-Ministerial Conference on South-South and Triangular Cooperation in Population and Development in Victoria Falls currently underway.

 The vaccination will run from today until Friday targeting all children below the age of five years.

The target is to reach 2 77 940 children under five years and beat the 4rd round record of 94.5 percent coverage.

“The Ministry is conducting this series of polio vaccination campaigns for children in close collaboration with six other countries in the region namely Burindi, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zambia in the spirit of regional integration and in line with renewed global polio eradication drive,” said Dr Mombeshora.

He said no polio case has been reported in Zimbabwe lately.
