SOUNDBITE 3 (English): CLEMENCE DURI, Medical Superintendent of Beatrice Road Infectious HospitalSTORYLINE:Chinese enterprises in Zimbabwe on Friday donated cholera control supplies worth 10,000 U.S. dollars to the African country.   Chinese entities under the Chamber of Chinese Enterprises in Zimbabwe (CCEZ) delivered supplies including disinfectants, protective clothing, tents and food items to the Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital in Harare.  SOUNDBITE 1 (English): LIU BAIXUE, Vice Chairperson of the Chamber of Chinese Enterprises in Zimbabwe (CCEZ)”We are fully aware that there is a cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe that has been happening I think from last year, and we understand that it’s slowly being controlled. We are happy for this news, but I think it’s important for the business communities to come together to help, to provide assistance as much as we will be able to provide.”   The CCEZ has over 80 members, including Chinese government-owned entities and China-listed companies in various sectors such as mining, manufacturing, power generation and logistics.Gideon Mapokotera, the Provincial Human Resources Officer for the Ministry of Health, expressed gratitude to Chinese entities for the donation, saying it’s a shot in the arm in the fight against cholera.   SOUNDBITE 2 (English): GIDEON MAPOKOTERA, Provincial Human Resources Officer, Ministry of Health”We are so happy that the Chinese, as you know, have always been good friends to Zimbabwe. They have brought a various assortment of goods, both disinfectants, PPEs, food, blankets, and these will go a long way in, number one, motivating our staff, and also reaching out to our community so that we help in reducing the spread of cholera.”   Clemence Duri, the Medical Superintendent of the Beatrice Road Infectious Hospital, said the donation will complement ongoing efforts in the fight against cholera.   SOUNDBITE 3 (English): CLEMENCE DURI, Medical Superintendent of Beatrice Road Infectious Hospital”We had an increase in the number of cholera cases, starting end of December, and the beginning of January, and our resources were a bit strained and we thank the Chinese for coming onboard to assist us, I think all other private players are also encouraged to do like the Chinese have done.”   So far, cholera cases have been recorded in most of Zimbabwe’s 64 districts. On Monday, an oral cholera vaccination program targeting 2.3 million people was launched to fight the spread of the disease.Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Harare.(XHTV)
