Carbondale funding new local businesses | News

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Carbondale is investing in upcoming local businesses.

The city announced Tuesday the Small Business Accelerator Program. The program is a partnership with the Illinois Small Business Development Center at SIU to provide funding and training for small business startups.

Carbondale hopes the program will inspire more individuals to take a shot at starting local shops and organizations. They have said a special focus will be given to minority- and female-owned shops.

Business owners looking to receive funding must first complete an in-person or virtual course that will help build a business in today’s landscape. The courses are open to those 18 or older who live or own a business in Carbondale. The business must be in its startup phase or within its first two years of operation.

Upon completion of the course, business owners will receive $1,250. They may then apply for up to $5,000 with a pitch before a panel if desired.

Interested individuals may apply now on the program’s website.
